July 2019 Athlete of The Month: Sabrina Show

Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about.

Our July 2019 AOTM is Sabrina Show! Sabrina pushes herself every single time she steps foot in the box. Sabrina is getting ready for her upcoming volleyball season at Henderson State in Arkansas. You can find Sabrina in our 5:00am or 4:45pm classes! Come hang out with her and you’ll see why she’s our AOTM! Get to know Sabrina in his interview below. Congratulations Sabrina! We are thrilled to have you as this month’s Athlete of the Month.


1. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF. 

I am 20 years old, I am the youngest for four kids (2 half siblings, one full sister), I am transferring to Henderson State to play volleyball( I played two years at WCJC). I am going to get a degree in Education, Pre-k to be specific. Jesus is life.


2. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?

Haha actually Jodie Hutchinson was my YoungLife instructor at Wharton County Junior College, we got super close and she invited me to come and try it out.


3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?

That it is so important to do your lift correctly. As an athlete the coach kinda just leaves it up to you, but at CrossFit 1710 Jason is always watching and wants to make sure we are able to do the lift the right way.


4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CROSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL? 

The atmosphere of the people at 1710 is for sure my favorite, everyone is super friendly and Jason is such an easy person to understand, if I ever have a question about a lift or something, I am not afraid to ask!


5. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT? 

I do not have a specific workout, but being able to accomplish those super challenging workouts!


6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE?

Favorite Lift: Deadlift

Least Fav Movement: Anything on the pull up bar


7. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?

It has made me realize that no matter the workout, I am going to finish. As an athlete I have that drive to finish, but CrossFit has helped me out with pushing until the end. It has opened the door for so many good friends, everyone I have ever been in a class, I can consider them a friend.


8. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?

My goals are just to continue to stay in shape even after my volleyball career, hopefully come back to 1710 when I get a big girl job.


9. WHEN YOU’RE NOT CROSSFITTING WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO?

I have a dog named Frankie, she’s so sweet and I love to play with her. Hang out with family. And sleep!


10. THE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED?

That each workout can be scaled down so it is possible for EVERYONE to do it! It does not matter your background in working out.


11. WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT? 

I have tried to eat a little cleaner, but as a college student that can be rough sometimes.


12. RESULTS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESULTS! 

I have seen my muscles become more defined, CrossFit 1710 has worked me out hard but it has been worth it. After workouts I feel like I am on a kind of a high, my energy level is higher. Especially when I do morning workouts, I feel so successful throughout that day.
