Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about.
Our April 2025 Athlete of The Month is William Herrington! William joined the CrossFit 1710 team one year ago in April 2024. In the past year, William has gotten stronger, faster, and healthier due to consistent attendance to CrossFit classes, improvement in nutrition, and discipline in pursuing his health and fitness goals. William is incredibly receptive to coaching, is eager to learn, and is patient with the process. Our coaches love William's attitude and determination to train for longevity and whole health improvement. His commitment to become healthier for himself and family is inspiring and continuing to grow with William as he enjoys the process. William- We are very proud of you and excited to continue this whole health pursuit with you!

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.
Hi. My name is William Herrington. I am 34 years old and originally from Taft California. I moved here with my parents in 2008, went to Boling High School, and graduated in 2009. I found my best friend and now my wife Brittany Herrington. We have 3 boys and 1 dog. They are a handful but love them all. I work at Nan-Ya Plastic Corporations.

WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?
The reason I started Cross Fit is because of my family. I was working shift work, going from nights to days and not eating healthy. I put on some weight and found myself feeling tired all the time, especially playing with the kids. I heard about Cross Fit 1710 through my wife’s cousin Estella Rojas and Coach Jason LIanes, when our kids played T-Ball together.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CROSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL?
The thing I enjoy most about Cross Fit 1710 is the people I work out with. From friends, coaches, and family, the atmosphere of this place is welcoming and open, they are there for you. The coaches will help you not only meet but exceed the goal you set to become the best version of you. After each workout it feels like you completed a task that you didn’t think you could do, but you did it. You don’t get that feeling when you are in another gym by yourself.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT? The proudest moment is when I did a handstand even though it was for couple seconds, I still did it. I have never done a handstand and I’m still working on handstand walks.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT?
Ever since I was a kid, running has been my favorite movement. When I run, I love to feel the freedom of leaving everything behind you feeling the wind against your face.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT?
My least favorite movement is burpees because they are a full-body workout for me. But I do them anyway, and I get better every time we have burpees in a workout.

FAVORITE WORKOUT MUSIC?
The music that the coaches play in the gym is good. It’s never boring and different every time I go in. Keep up the good work coaches.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710?
I have learned that nothing is impossible. If you listen to the coaches and learn to do the movements correctly, you will get where you want to be at in time. Things just don’t just happen in a couple of classes; you have to work for it and even consider your food intake.

WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HOW HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?
I just started supplementing my breakfast and lunch with protein shakes and my snacks is apples and bananas and almonds and then eat whatever my wife makes at dinner. Since I started my diet, I lost 10 pounds and went down a pants size.
WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?
It has put an impact on my life in and out, they help you with the correct lifting technique, and it helped with mental health, it’s totally therapeutic for me.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?
Since I have been here, I competed in the CrossFit Games online Open competition. Now, I’m signed up for a Spartan run in May. I never thought I would be doing it, but here I am. I am going for it and I won’t stop there.
