April 2020 Athlete of The Month: Kye Yackel!

Each month we spotlight a different CrossFit 1710 athlete who stands out and shows just how awesome they are. What is it that makes up an Athlete of the Month? It may not be the person that finishes the fastest, Rx’s every WOD, or gets a PR every time they walk in the gym. Although we love and celebrate when those things happen, the Athlete of the Month is made up of much more than physical ability. This person shows up, gives their best every time, and then gives a little more. They are hungry to learn and always ready to do the work. They support their fellow athletes and encourage them to reach their goals. This athlete embodies what we believe the CrossFit 1710 Community should be about.
Our April 2020 Athlete of The Month is Kye Yackel! Kye has been an athlete with us since January 2, 2020. Her CrossFit journey began with her mom (Brandi) and brother (Holt) signing up with us. In just 4 months Kye has made amazing gains in her health and fitness journey! She's consistently getting her home WOD's in with her mom and brother. Congratulations on making the cheer team! Your're hard work is paying off! Kye presents as shy and quiet but is always ready to workout! You'll find Kye at home right now killing those home WOD's! You can usually find her on Saturday mornings in the 8am class! Come and join Kye (when we re-open) in a workout and you’ll see why she's our AOTM! Get to know Kye in her interview below. 1.TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF. My name is Kye Yackel & I am 13 years old. I attend El Campo Middle School. I like being active playing volleyball, softball, track, and cheer. I show cattle for the fair and do shooting sports. I am active in our church and a youth group. I playing with my dog Asher and texting with my friends! 2. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT? My Mom and brother were already doing CrossFit...they were always talking about the workouts. It sounded fun and I wanted to try it out. 3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SINCE JOINING CROSSFIT 1710? I learned that I am stronger than I knew! Working out can be fun and helps me in my everyday activities to be stronger and mentally strong also. 4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CROSSFIT 1710 OR CROSSFIT IN GENERAL? The athletes at CrossFit 1710 make the workouts so fun. I enjoy the partner workouts. The variety of movements are great too – different exercises keep it fun! 5. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT? Being AOTM is my proudest moment!!!! 6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE? My favorite crossfit movement is definitely running :) My least favorite movement is burpees :( 7. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM? CrossFit has motivated me to be more active everyday!! Whether I am at the gym or doing home WOD’s– it pushes me to be my very best! 8. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM? I would like to get a handstand push up. I can get in the handstand position and lower myself – I just have to get the push up part - haha 9. WHEN YOU’RE NOT CROSSFITTING WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO? I like to ride my horse, play sports, and swim. These fun activities keep me busy and active. 10. THE ONE TIP YOU’D GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING CROSSFIT OR JUST STARTED? To take your time in learning new movements so you get proper form and avoid injuries. BUT definitely go try it – you will want to join.
11. WHAT IS YOUR DIET LIKE? HAS IT CHANGED SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT? Definitely, I now eat a lot of fruits and healthy options.
